In labs, a new food trend is found,
Grown from cells, with science around,
Meat, dairy, and sugar too,
Lab-grown foods, for me and you.
In the UK, it's a waiting game,
Approval process, a lengthy claim,
But Singapore, US, and Israel too,
Have already given it a go, it's true.
Dog food first, a step in the right,
Lab-grown meat, a new delight,
UK firms led the way in science so fine,
But regulations held them back in line.
The FSA's on it, to speed up the pace,
New regulations, a safer place,
Experts from firms, and academics too,
Working together, to get it through.
But critics say, a conflict of interest,
Firms drawing rules, a biased insistence,
Pat Thomas speaks out, with a worried face,
"We must ensure safety, in this new food place."
The science minister, Lord Vallance says,
"It's not deregulation, but pro-innovation ways,
Reducing bureaucracy, and duplication too,
To help lab-grown foods, and all they can do."
