In the EU, a deal was sought with great care,
A defence pact with the UK, to show they would share,
A partnership in security, for a safer place to be,
And for Britain to join in, in defence research and sea.
But a snag was found, in the waters so blue,
Fishing rights were a problem, for the EU to pursue,
They wanted a share, of the British catch so fine,
But Britain said no, and the talks did decline.
Kaja Kallas spoke out, with a voice so clear,
"We must not let fishing, hold up the defence gear,
The war in Ukraine, is a threat to us all,
We need a strong defence pact, to stand tall."
She said with a smile, "Fish are very important too,
But not as important, as our defence to do,
I'm pushing for the deal, to be signed with great cheer,
For the UK is a partner, that we hold so dear."
But Sweden's minister, had a different view,
She said the two issues, could be linked anew,
"I think we can find a way, to make it work just right,
And have a deal on both, that's fair and bright."
