In fields of North Yorkshire, a tale was found,
A Melsonby Hoard, with treasures all around.
Peter Heads, a metal detectorist, made the score,
And archaeologists helped him dig some more.
Eight hundred items, a staggering sight,
Cauldrons, harnesses, and spears, shining bright.
Two thousand years old, a story to tell,
Of wealth and power, in northern Britain's dell.
The British Museum and Historic England joined the quest,
A £120,000 grant, to help the excavation nest.
Tom Moore said, "This find is exceptional, indeed,
A major re-evaluation, of northern Britain's creed."
The items were purposefully burnt, or broken with care,
A show of power, and wealth, beyond compare.
The destruction, on a scale, rarely seen before,
Demonstrates the elites, of northern Britain, were in store.
Four wheel wagons, and two wheel chariots, too,
A network of elites, across Britain, and Europe, they knew.
The Roman world, and the continent, were connected by trade,
A story of wealth, and power, in the Iron Age shade.
