In Chile's south, a story unfolds with flair,
Of salmon farms, and a dispute that's hard to share.
Protected areas, where fish swim free,
Now home to farms, a sight to see.
In Puerto Montt, a port city so grand,
The industry thrives, with a workforce in hand.
Workers in white suits, with gloves and masks too,
Prepare salmon for export, a job to do.
Fracisco Lobos speaks with pride and cheer,
Of how salmon's brought prosperity, year by year.
Poverty's decreased, as people earn more pay,
A region transformed, in a most wonderful way.
But critics say, with a voice so clear,
The farms pollute, and cause environmental fear.
Flavia Liberona leads a campaign so bold,
To save Patagonia, where salmon farms grow old.
She says the fish farms cause problems so dire,
Less oxygen, and sea life that's on fire.
The government's slow, to take action so fine,
To relocate farms, and make the sea shine.
Mr. Clement from Salmón Chile, has a different view,
Of the concessions, and what they can do.
He says they've asked to be relocated, but in vain,
The government's slow, and the process's in pain.
The Undersecretary, Julio Salas Gutiérrez says,
The government's working, to remove farms from national ways.
But the process's complex, and takes years to complete,
A challenge so great, for the industry to repeat.
Matt Craze from Spheric Research, says it's all about trust,
A better regulatory framework, and a government that's just.
But with an election coming, the uncertainty's here to stay,
Chile's salmon industry, waits for a better day.
