In England's schools, a change did come,
VAT added to fees, a new tax to be done.
On private schools, it now must be paid,
20% on top, a cost that's not delayed.
The government plans to spend the money raised,
On teachers for state schools, a much-needed aid.
But a challenge's been taken to the High Court's door,
Claiming the policy's discriminatory, and not fair to explore.
Private schools are exempt, but now they must pay,
A 20% tax, come what may.
Charities, too, will see a change in their fate,
No tax relief, a new rate to abate.
A challenge's been brought, by three groups in tow,
The ISC, Christian faith schools, and Education not Discrimination, you know.
They argue it's against human rights, a right to an education so fine,
And discriminatory, a policy that's not divine.
The government says, "We'll raise standards high",
For the 94% who attend state schools, we'll try.
If you choose private, that's your right, they say,
But if you opt out, you'll pay VAT, come what day.
