A doctor's trust was broken one day, Her son died of sepsis, and she couldn't stay.

A doctor rushed her son to the hospital one day,
Where she worked, but didn't know what to say,
Her 22-year-old William was very unwell,
And within 24 hours, his life began to dwindle and fell.
He had meningitis that turned to sepsis so fast,
His mother was frantic, her heart was aghast,
She asked the staff for help, but it seemed slow,
And her son's condition worsened, oh what to know.
Dr Deborah Burns said she felt betrayed and blue,
By the way her family was treated, it just wasn't true,
She had asked for antibiotics eight times in a row,
But the staff didn't recall, and she felt the pain grow.
A coroner criticized the hospital with a sigh,
But couldn't say if quicker treatment would've saved him alive,
The hospital said they'd learn from their mistakes of the past,
But Dr Burns couldn't go back, the trust was lost at last.
She felt a defensive culture within the NHS so strong,
And now she's diagnosed with complex grief that won't be gone,
She trusted them, but they let her down, oh what a shame,
And now she worries for others, with the same tragic claim.
