In Britain's TV land, a cry was made,
For help from the government, a change was needed to be played.
A report from MPs said, "We must not be slow,"
To save our high-end TV, and let it grow.
The rise of streaming services, a threat did pose,
To our national conversations, and the talent that we know.
Dramas like Adolescence, vital to our identity,
Under threat, a crisis, we must take initiative.
Chair of the CMS committee, Dame Caroline did say,
"It's time for streamers to pay, in a cultural way."
5% of their UK revenue, into a fund to be placed,
To help finance drama, with a British taste.
Big box-office blockbusters, a showcase to the world,
Our film and TV industry, a story to unfurl.
But the boom in inward investment, a risk does bring,
Crowding out our independent producers, with a sorrowful ring.
A Netflix spokeswoman said, "We want to stay and thrive,"
But a levy would diminish, our competitive drive.
A Coba executive said, "It would damage our investment too,"
And impact existing content, and the jobs we do.
