In England's schools, a new plan's in store,
Free breakfast clubs for 750 more,
Starting in April, 180,000 pupils will dine,
On healthy meals, before the school bell chimes.
In deprived areas, a third of schools will shine,
With breakfast clubs, a helping hand divine,
Labour promised free breakfasts for all to share,
And now the pilot's here, with funding to spare.
But some MPs and head teachers raise a frown,
Concerned the funding's too low, a worry all around,
Neil O'Brien questions the planned spend and more,
"How will the gap be closed?" he asks, and more.
Bridget Phillipson's confident, the funding's just right,
Adequate for the needs, of morning light,
But head teachers worry, the daily rate's too low,
Just 60p per pupil, a cost that will grow.
The government says, the clubs will be free to all,
A set-up payment, to cover equipment's fall,
Reimbursement will follow, based on attendance too,
A school with 50% participation, could get £23,000 a year, it's true.
