In the UK's NHS, a study's been done,
To help detect cancers, and save lives, everyone.
For women with dense breasts, extra scans are key,
To spot the cancers, and set their hearts free.
Around one in 10, have very dense breasts, you see,
A higher risk of cancer, but harder to spot with glee.
Mammograms are tricky, because cancers look the same,
As dense breasts, on the x-rays, it's a tricky game.
A trial was conducted, at Cambridge University's might,
Testing new scanning methods, day and night.
Around 9,000 women, were part of the test,
To see if new methods, could pass with the best.
Enhanced mammograms, and fast MRI scans too,
Detected 17-19 cancers, per 1,000 women, it's true.
Traditional mammograms, only spotted eight,
A difference of nine, is quite a feat.
This could mean 3,500, extra cancers detected each year,
And potentially 700 lives, could be saved, my dear.
The researchers say, it's time to make a change,
To improve detection rates, and rearrange.
Prof Fiona Gilbert, led the research with care,
She's convinced the new approach, will make a difference to share.
The Department of Health, is reviewing the test,
To see if new methods, can pass with the best.
A new national cancer plan, is expected to arrive,
Later this year, with a plan to thrive.
The NHS is determined, to fight cancer with all its might,
To save lives and improve, the chances of a better night.
