In London town, a scientist so fine,
Alessandro Coatti, with a heart so divine.
He worked for the RSB, with passion so bright,
Leading animal science, day and night.
He was funny, warm, and intelligent too,
Loved by all who knew him, that's what they'd do.
He gave evidence in the House of Commons with flair,
A dedicated scientist, beyond compare.
He took a master's course at UCL with pride,
And worked for the RSB, for eight years he'd glide.
As science policy officer, he made a great name,
And then to senior officer, he rose to the game.
He left the RSB, to travel and explore,
Volunteering in Ecuador, and more, and more.
He visited Minca, and researched with glee,
Local animal species, a scientist's spree.
But in Santa Marta, his journey did end,
In a suitcase, his body, a tragic trend.
Dismembered and found, in a stream so cold,
A life cut short, a story to be told.
