In Britain's halls, a debate did rage,
About the two-child cap, a policy to engage,
Bridget Phillipson spoke, with words so clear,
Scrapping it might be, but at what cost, my dear.
The government's looking, with a careful eye,
At the policy's impact, and the cost to apply,
She said it's not easy, to make such a change,
But the price tag's big, and the cost to arrange.
People were pushed, into poverty's dark night,
By the policy's strict rules, without a fight,
The minister warned, of the cost to bear,
But the cost of inaction, is also hard to share.
The taskforce's working, with a careful pace,
To find a solution, to the policy's dark place,
Liz Kendall and Bridget, leading the way,
To a brighter future, for children each day.
The SNP and Labour, have called for a change,
To lift the cap, and end the policy's range,
The Liberal Democrats, and the Greens agree,
That children shouldn't suffer, because of policy.
Nigel Farage spoke, with a promise so bold,
To lift the cap, if his party's in control,
Mel Stride defended, the policy with a grin,
But the public's fed up, with the government's spin.
Around 1.6 million, live in a household so tight,
Affected by the cap, with no end in sight,
The Resolution Foundation, says axing the cap would be grand,
Lifting 470,000 children, out of poverty's hand.
