In Cambridge's halls, a story's told,
Of a chancellor's role, to be elected bold.
Gina Miller and Sandi Toksvig in the mix,
Hoping to be the first woman, with a powerful fix.
The role's ceremonial, no executive might,
But a public face, for the university's light.
The election's online, and in person too,
A first for the university, with a story anew.
Lord Sainsbury stepped down, after a decade long,
Leaving the role open, for a new song.
The candidates are many, with skills so grand,
From Labour peer to economist, in this Cambridge land.
Sandi Toksvig joked, with a twinkle in her eye,
"After 800 years, it's time for a change, don't you think, why?"
A plethora of Richards, Johns, and Stephens too,
It's time for a woman, to break through.
Prof Wyn Evans, Lord Browne, and others so fine,
Are vying for the role, with a passion so divine.
The voting's underway, online and in person too,
The outcome's uncertain, but the story's new.
More than 34,500 have registered to vote online,
With thousands more, in person, to make it shine.
The winning candidate, will be announced with cheer,
In the week beginning 21 July, the news will be clear.
The university's proud, of its alumni so bright,
With a story to tell, of a chancellor's new light.
The election's a symbol, of equality and might,
A new chapter unfolds, in the university's sight.
